Violet B. Eure

Violet B. Eure, 85, of the 7500 block of Diven St. passed away March 31, 2011.  She was predeceased by her parents, Clara and Richard Brown, Sr., husband, Thomas A. Eure, Jr. and four brothers, Richard “Dick” Brown Jr., James “Bolegs” Brown, Johnny Brown and Eunice Brown.

She is survived by a daughter, Donna Lynne Eure; adopted son, Clem Williams; two grandchildren, Dierra Shantel Bradford and SSgt. Promise Jerome Bradford Sr.; great-grandchild, Promise Jerome Bradford Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary E. McNeely

Mary Ethel McNeely, 101, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011 at Sentara Bayside Hospital.  She was born in Chesapeake, VA in the Deep Creek section of Hampton Roads.  She was the daughter of the late Rev. John Bishop McNeely of Saint Thomas Baptist Church and the late Mary Wilson McNeely.

Mary was a retired nurse from New York Hospital after several dedicated years of compassionate and caring service.  Numerous years were spent in the labor and delivery unit, as she viewed new lives entering the world.

Mary was predeceased by her granddaughter, Leslie Patrice Bunch; grandson, Brian Bunch both of Bronx, NY; two brothers, Alphonso McNeely and John Bishop McNeely Jr.; four sisters, Helen McNeely, Dorothy Law, Edna Clark and Rosetta Morgan.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory, a loving son, Jackie Bunch; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Bunch of Bronx, NY; one caring sister, Emma Cuffee of Portsmouth; godson, Herbert Smith of Bronx, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Virginia D. Broadnax

Virginia D. Broadnax, 58, passed away April 1, 2011.  She was born June 20, 1952 in Scotland Neck, NC.  She served as an airman in the US Air Force.

She is survived by one daughter, Ayanna B. Sanders; her mother, Rosa Broadnax; four sisters, Pauline B. Antomattei, Patricia Lans, Sandra Mack and Jeanette Kimble; three brothers, Paul Broadnax, James Broadnax and Lorenzo Broadnax; two grandchildren, Myles and Morgan Sanders. The family would like to thank the staff of the Hampton Veterans Medical Center-Nursing Home B as they too were her family.

James S. Barnes, Jr.

James S. “Big Jim” Barnes, Jr., 63, of the 2600 block of Sunrise Ave. passed away March 30, 2011.  He was born Aug. 24, 1947 in Norfolk, VA.  He was predeceased by his father, James S. Barnes, Sr.

James served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years and retired from the Norfolk Police Dept. after 10 years of service.  He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he served with the Youth Ministry.  James also sang in a group with his brothers, The Brothers of Norfolk.

He is survived by his wife, Delastine A. Barnes; two daughters, Shirley Barnes-Ramos and Jamie Barnes; one son, James M. Barnes; his mother, Gertrude M. Barnes; three sisters, Rosa Brown, Christine Gomes and Marie Parker; five brothers, Ronald Barnes, Dennis Barnes, Louis Barnes, Alonzo Barnes and Andrew Barnes; grandchildren, Kori M. Barnes, Enrique Evans, Amari Perkins, Jada Perkins and Briahna Ramos; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Paula Bellamy, 38, passed away Monday, March 28, 2011.  She was born in Norfolk, VA to Paul Bellamy and Adelaide Gilliam.  She is survived by a daughter, Prencess Bellamy; stepmother, Doris Bellamy; granddaughter, Zakhra Bellamy; six brothers, Larry Bellamy, Leon Bellamy, Larry Gilliam, Michael Gilliam, Torbert Gilliam, Darren Gilliam; three sisters, Vanessa Gilliam, Gloria Gilliam and Dewanda Gilliam; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Donna Michelle (Stith) Robinson, 42, went on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.  She was a 1986 graduate of Great Bridge High School, a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church; and was employed at Bank of America for 14 years. 

To cherish her memory, she leaves her husband, Samuel Robinson III; six children, Sade’ Stephenson, Gianni Stephenson, Achewood Benjamin III, Samuel Robinson IV, Samora Robinson and Samyra Robinson.

Mae Bell Madden, 75, passed away on March 28, 2011. She was born May 22, 1935 to the late Samuel and Hettie Singletary in Lake City, SC. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl Lee Madden and four siblings. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Dennis (Bonnie), daughters, Leatrice (Elroy), Daphne (Anthony); five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Veola Fleming and an array of other relatives and friends.
