Donell Evans, was called home on Tuesday, March 29, 2011.  He was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 24, 1958. He was predeceased by his father, Ellison Evans. 

Donell leaves to mourn his wife, Priscilla Evans; four daughters, Jakeia, Reason, Bryanna and Donika Evans; one son, Chance Evans; his mother, Inella Evans; three brothers, Larry Evans (Tesa), Douglas Evans and Darryl  Evans (Olanthia);  two sisters, Veronica Mister (Eddie) and Angela Evans;  two lifelong friends, Kenneth Londow and Iris James.

Earl “Luv Chuck” Jones, 47, departed this life on March 23, 2011.  Mr. Jones was born February 4, 1964 to Marie L. Jones and the late Benjamin C. Jones, Sr. in Norfolk, VA.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Earl Banks and Cordaro Coley; two daughters, Nicole Hobbs and Ebony Banks; his mother, Marie L. Jones; one sister, Laurann Jones; four brothers, Benjamin C. Jones Jr. (Mamie), Michael Jones (Gloria), Ronnie Jones and Curtis Jones; one uncle, James H. Minter; 4 grandchildren; a special friend, Carol “Ann” Smith; best friend, Darnell “Dee Dee” Evans; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sarah V. Shief, 76, formerly of Killeen, TX transitioned from earth to glory on March 28, 2011. She was a faithful member of St. Mark AME Church and attended First Trinity AME regularly.

Sarah was a homemaker and was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Julius M. Shief.  She is survived by her daughter Joan Shief Bolden of Atlanta, GA; her grandson D’Orlando Bolden and one great granddaughter. She will also be missed by many dear friends and god children.

Juanita Venning

Juanita Jones Mayo Venning, 70, of 7000 Auburn Avenue passed away Thursday, March 24, 2011. “Mickie” as she was affectionately known by her friends and family was born in Norfolk, VA on July 2, 1940 to George H. Jones and Priscilla Higgs Jones. She was predeceased by her parents; son Quintin Wendell Mayo; sisters, Marie Audrey Jones, Bernice Georgia Mae Horton Wright, and Suretha Jones. She attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1958. Juanita received degrees in Registered Nursing and Sociology from Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University respectively.

Juanita worked as a RN at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and the now defunct Norfolk Community Hospital before her career ended due to multiple illness. Juanita was a devoted Christian and worshipped at First Pentecostal UHC in Norfolk, VA.

Juanita is survived by her brother, Robert P. Jones; sister-in-laws Verna Trotman and Claudette Jones; two daughters, Bonita L. Mayo and Deborah L. Brown; a step-daughter Eartha L. Venning; two sons, Calvin V. Mayo, Jr. and Gregory L. Mayo; and a step-son Henry D. Venning; a daughter-in-law Salone R. Mayo; a brother-in-law Hayward Horton; a special friend, Rita Church; 13 grandchildren; two nieces, five nephews; and a host of great-nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

Melvin E. “Cornbread” Roberson, 74, passed peacefully March 25, 2011 at VAMC Hampton surrounded by his daughter Angela, son, Tony and family members.
He was born Nov. 7, 1936 to the late Rosa Marie Boston in Washington, NC.  He was predeceased by his wife, Minnie B. Roberson and a brother, Allen Grover.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Angela; son, Tony (Tammy); grandson, Anthony; granddaughter, Nikki; great-granddaughter, Nijah; one sister; one brother.
