Charlie A. Wescott

Charlie A. Wescott, 63, slipped into eternal rest on February 27, 2011. He was born May 13, 1947 to the late Girldean and Charlie A. Wescott, Sr.

Charlie was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and the 1968 class of the Medical Field Service School.  He retired from the U.S. Army and Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Charlie received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.

He is survived by two daughters, one son, one sister, one brother, ten grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Robert Augustus “Skip” Rowe, 75, of the 7400 block of Diven St. passed away Feb. 26, 2011 at Harbor Pointe Rehab Center.  He was born Oct. 16, 1935 to the late Mary and Bob Rowe in Norfolk, VA.  He was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk.  Robert retired after 31 years of service as a Merchant Seaman from Seafarers.  He was predeceased by his wife, Lucy Rowe.

He is survived by one daughter, Arlene V. Jones; three sons, Lamar A. Rowe, Quinton D. Rowe and Malcolm S. Rowe; one sister, Betty Lou Mitchell; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn Laing and Jacqueline Wilborn (Benjamin); three brothers-in-law, Nathaniel Beale (Gladys), Hamilton Beale and Cornelius Beale; 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Eugene Wilson (Mable); and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jennie Mae Davidson

Jennie Mae Davidson

Jennie Mae Davidson, 90, of the 2700 block of Hollister Ave. passed away Feb. 25, 2011.  Jennie, affectionately known as “Momma Davidson” or “Day-Day” was born February 28, 1920 to the late Sherman and Mary Johnson in Gaffney, SC.  She began her education in the Gaffney School System and later graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Joseph Calvert “J.C.” Davidson and her son, Joe Dean.

Jennie retired after 30 years as a dietician at the former Marine Hospital, Norfolk.  She was a faithful and devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years.

She is survived by two sons, Calvert (Doris) and Myles (Gladys); one daughter-in-law, Rebecca Davidson; her grandchildren, Cheryl Rouhlac, Sharon Cook (George Jr.), Jill Davidson, Traci Smith (Kendrick), Daniel Davidson, Todd Davidson (Laia), Bryan Davidson, Barry and Bryant Speller; godson, B. Christopher Garrett (Odessa); her great-grandchildren, George III, Courtney, Calvert, Kendal, Micah, Sydney, Kennedy, Cana, Marcus, Dean, Raiah, Ajah, Shalisha, Shanita, Sharita, Joshua, Ricardo, Krishina, Brandon, Malcolm; her great-great grandchildren, Keiarra, Keith, Vancelle, Destiny, Kaymon and Jakari; two special goddaughters, Belinda Brisco-Jackson and Corliss Dreher; her spiritual great-granddaughters, Quiana Perry-Claiborne and Ebony Matthews; her spiritual sisters, Rosa Norman and Francis Carr; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Arthur M. Jenkins

Arthur M. Jenkins, 59, passed away February 24, 2011. He was a native of Portsmouth, VA, where he received his education, was an Army veteran, and worked at NNSY for 28 years before he retired in 2009.

He will forever be remembered for his love of family, faith in God, sweet spirit, and his contagious “dimpled” smile.

Arthur was a loving and devoted person who leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 39 years, Denise Jenkins; two sons, Arthur Jenkins, II and Preston Jenkins; one daughter, Joy Jenkins; eight siblings, Mary Small (Paige), Dorothy Patton, Frances McClary, Preston Jenkins (Kathlyne), Gail Louden, John Jenkins (Mary), Michael Jenkins (Linda) and Gerald Jenkins (Deborah); and a host of other family members and friends who all loved him dearly.

Arlie Robert Malone, Jr., 72, of the 400 block of Clemson Avenue, passed away February 25, 2011. He was born February 5, 1939 to the late Arlie R. Malone, Sr. and Lillian Malone in Norfolk, VA.

Arlie was a 1957 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and a 1961 graduate of Hampton Institute. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and owner of A.R. Malone Plumbing.  He retired from NNSY after serving 27 years. Arlie served as a deacon at Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church.  He was a member of the Eastern Seaboard Plumbers Association and Hampton University Alumni Association. He was predeceased by his brother, William Malone. 

He is survived by his wife Henrietta Blondell Smith Malone; three sons, Charles (Arlene), Robert (Jualecia) and Jeffrey Malone; one daughter Arlene; one sister Ann Malone; one brother James Malone; grandchildren, Quinton Johnson, Cameron and Brianna Miller, Kendi, Josiah, Cai, and  Joshua Malone; sister-in-law, Kathleen Malone; and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.

May 19, 1928 in Georgetown, SC.He is survived by three daughters, Artis Wallace, Thelma Parham and Betty Battle; five grandchildren, Deborah Norris, Romel Deloatch, Vickie Johnson, Fredrida Williams, Demeturis Gibbs; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was born September 26, 1922 to the late Ganella Priester and Thurman
Washington in Barnwell, SC.  She was predeceased by her daughter, Hortense Washington and son, LeVal Smith. She is survived by a granddaughter, Latreece Smith; grandson, Craig Morrow Sr. (Adrienne); great-grandson, Craig Morrow Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
