Doris F. Brown
Mother Doris Ford Brown went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Harbour Pointe Medical Facility in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mother Brown was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, born June 2, 1928 to the late Robert and Florence Ford. She was united in marriage to Matthew Brown, Jr. and from that union; they were blessed with five sons whom she loved dearly. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother.
Evangelist Doris Brown, affectionately known as Mother Brown was a gifted woman of God. She was a graduate of Charles Harrison Mason Bible College. Mother Brown served in many leadership positions at the Garden of Prayer Worship Center, where the late Bishop Levi E. Willis was the Pastor.
Mother Brown gave her life to the Lord in 1954 and served Him faithfully. She was a former member of St. Stephen COGIC, now known as Cathedral of Faith COGIC and the Garden Of Prayer Worship Center. She later joined New Hope COGIC where she was a faithful member. Mother Brown was a devoted missionary, serving as president of the Missionary Circle for more than 25 years, member of Home & Foreign Missions, and served on the Portsmouth District Missionary ministry. Her love for the Lord and His Word was evident in her teaching as a Sunday School teacher, a prayer warrior in the Prayer & Bible Band, service given in Young Women Christian Council, the Young People Willing Workers, and the Purity Class. Mother Brown was also active in the following ministries: Pastor’s Aide, Sewing Circle, Hospitality, Sunshine Band, and Choir. A great leader and organizer culminated with her serving on the Planning Committee, Ways & Means Committee, Usher Ministry, and the Finance Committee. In her later years she became a Mother of the church serving on the Mother’s Board helping young women to grow in their spiritual walk. Mother Brown was a strong woman of love and mercy. When you think of Mother Brown, one is reminded of Micah 6:8: He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? She was a shining light always willing to listen to you, pray with and for you and tell you of the love of Jesus.
