Muriel Long-Newsome, 72, of the 2800 block of Leeds Ct. passed away May 4, 2011 at Carrington Place in Portsmouth. She was born May 26, 1938 to the late Sarah Ann and Maine DeJane Jr. in Harlem, NY. She was predeceased by one sister, Shirley DeJane and one brother, Maine DeJane, Jr.
Muriel retired as a Principal from the Spodford Juvenile Detention Center. She was a member of Red Hatters, National Council of Negro Women and the YMCA Body Recall.
She is survived by one son, Kyiem Long; one sister, Matilda Margaret Watson; one grandson, Kyiem T. Long; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wendall Dwight Lowe, Sr., 67, died April 24, 2011, born October 23, 1943 in Parson, KS. He served 21 years in the U.S. Navy and 21 years of civil service at Langley Air Force Base.
He is survived by his son, Wendall D. Lowe, Jr. (Teresa); his daughter, Essala DeJesus (Mahadi); five grandchildren; former wife, Wanda Lowe; sister, Cleotha Allen; three step-sisters, Corine Christian, Angela Shelton, Alberdine Knox; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Juanita C. Ivery, 82, wife of the late Elder Morris T. Ivery, departed this life on May 1, 2011. An evangelist and member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, she was born in Bedford, VA.
The daughter of the late Harry and Harriet Hughes Christian, Juanita is survived by one sister, Magalene D. Austin; five sisters-in-law, Sophie Christian, Alice and Marylou Ivery, Catherine Collins, and Vivian Wilson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Thomas and Jeremiah Christian; and sisters, Mary C. Brown and Lucille C. Drummond.
