Chanel M. Boone

Chanel Monique Boone, 20, of the 5100 block of Brookstone Way passed away April 19, 2011 in Jacksonville, FL.  She was born May 11, 1990 in Portsmouth, VA.  She was predeceased by a grandmother, Olivia C. Boone.

Chanel graduated from Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville, NC. She also received a diploma for certified nursing assistant.  She attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church as a child.

She is survived by her mother, Miko M. Gordon (Leonard); father, James H. Boone, Sr. (Jennifer); one stepsister, Iyanna Gordon; two brothers, James Henry Boone Jr. and Marco Jalen-Christian Gordon; two stepbrothers, Joshua Gordon and Yusuf Richardson Jr.; grandparents, Charlie Lee Boone Sr., Doreatha Albright, Ted Albright and Robert Christian; aunts and uncles, Charles Lee Boone Jr., Lisa Boone Nwajei, Sherry Boone (Albert), Anita Boone-Millington (Kenneth), Olivia T. Boone, Kimberly Boone, Edison Albright, Sailey Albright, David Albright, Johnathan Albright, Kaine Jenkins (Chanel’s fiancé) and his mother and sister, Maxine and Kamry Jenkins; and many cousins and friends who adored her.

Joe Louis Mims

Joe Louis Mims

Joe Louis Mims departed his earthly home for his heavenly home on the morning of April 12, 2011 in Hampton, Va. A long-time resident of Norfolk, Va., Joe was 73 years old at the time of his passing.

 Joe was born on Aug. 29, 1937 in Tyler, Texas to the late Elder Mims and the late Mary B. Rainey Mims. He graduated from Emmett J. Scott High School in Tyler, Texas and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 20 years. He eventually went to work for the Norfolk Naval Base in Virginia and retired from there as a heavy mobile equipment foreman in 2000. The Norfolk Naval Base was a special place for Joe, since it was his second home for many years and where he met his faithful wife, Doris. Joe was a lifelong member of Jones Valley Community Church of God in Christ in Tyler, Texas and, despite living in Virginia, supported the church spiritually and financially until his passing.

 He is survived by his wife, Doris W. Mims of Norfolk. He is also survived by Gloria Scott (stepdaughter) and Oscar Scott (son-in-law), Virginia Beach; Jeffrey Mims (son), Virginia Beach, Virginia; Adrienne Thoroughgood (granddaughter) and Emmanuel Thoroughgood (grandson-in-law), Virginia Beach; Joy Scott (granddaughter), Laurel, Maryland; Terrell Mims (grandson), Columbia, South Carolina; Jayden Mims (grandson), Atlanta, Georgia; Ashleigh Thoroughgood (great-granddaughter), Virginia Beach; and Ashton Thoroughgood (great-grandson), Virginia Beach. In addition, he is survived by Eric Ward (stepson), Columbia, South Carolina and his five daughters; Linnie S. Carter (stepdaughter) and Kevin Carter (stepson-in-law), Strasburg; and Sabrina S. Richardson (stepdaughter) and Darnese Richardson (stepson-in-law) and their two daughters, Suffolk. He is also survived by five sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Elder Mims and Mary B. Rainey Mims, and three brothers.

Mary Louise Cochran, 59, went home Monday, April 18, 2011, to be with the Lord at her residence surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her parents Ophelia and Willie Cochran, Sr. and her son Cedric Cochran.

 She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Cochran of Norfolk; two sisters, Inez Fuller of Norfolk and Willia Mae Davis of Houston, TX; one brother, Phillip Cochran of Norfolk; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Regina “Gina” Breathwaite Gallahan passed away on April 17, 2011.  She was born onSeptember 4, 1949, inPrincessAnneCounty,Virginia.  Gina was employed by National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Bethesda, MD.  Gina was predeceased by her father, John R. Breathwaite, Sr. and brother, John R. Breathwaite, Jr. 

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, Ronald Gallahan, two daughters, Carla Lambert and Regina Lambert; mother, Evelyn Breathwaite; four brothers, Bobby Breathwaite (Judy), Phillip F. Breathwaite (Barbeta), Larry Breathwaite (Lynette) and Wayne Breathwaite; two sisters, Maude Moore (Robert) and Portia Derricks (Cleavant);  four grandchildren,  Daquon Lambert, Jolissa Liskey, Brittany Liskey and Jalen Lambert; one brother-in-law, Keith Gallahan (Nina), three sisters in law,  Peggy Vaughn, Mary Cornwell and Jackie Gallahan; four special friends, Carolyn Jones, Jocelyn Chapman, Carrie Tuning, Jalinda Huff; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Clarance Ramone Hill entered into this world August 12, 1988 departed Twenty-Two years later, April 16, 2011.  Clarance was a native ofMobileAlabama. He was a 2006 graduate of Menchville High School.  Clarance was preceded in death by his Loving mother, Mardwena Marie Hill-Wooten.

 Clarance leaves to celebrate his life, a devoted father, Mark Wooten (Caprice) and Nigel Simmons (Renee) of Atlanta GA; Loving sister, Ciara Wooten; Devoted brothers, Markel Hill and Antonio Wooten; Dedicated Aunt Chandra Oaks Garcia (Johnny) of Hampton; and a host of other relatives and friends.

McConnell Baker Sr.

McConnell “Mac” Baker, Sr., 78, passed away April 16, 2011.  He was born in Enfield, NC.  Mac retired from Norshipco in 1998.  He was a member of First Trinity AME Church, Chesapeake and was a mason with St. Paul Lodge #71.
He is survived by his wife, Lula Lowe Baker; two daughters, Sharon Kelly (Michael) and Phyllis Baker; three sons, Sherwood (Annette), Daryl (Regina) and McConnell Baker, Jr.; four sisters, Earlene Owes, Claytea Newby, Bernice McWilliams and Clementine Ross; four grandchildren, Jasmine and Brianne Kelly, Jayden and Ava Baker; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Marjorie D. Robinson

Marjorie Dunman Robinson passed away April 15, 2011.  She was born July 11, 1921 in Natchez, MS.  She was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church, Galveston, TX.  She retired as a teacher after 30 years of service with the Galveston Independent School District.  She was predeceased by her husband, L.C. Robinson, former husband, Eurphy Dunman and two sons, Wilbert and Alvin Dunman.

She is survived by two sons, Larry R. Lewis of Beaumont, TX and Kevin G. Dunman (ReNee’) of Chesapeake; five grandchildren, Kip Newby, Dwight DeQuire, Connie DeQuire, Chanell Dunman and Jordan Dunman; six great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
